Quick Facts:

Purnendra Meshram is an India based contemporary dance practitioner, who is working nationally and internationally. He is a performer, choreographer and educator. As an artist, he is interested in making dance/movement as education for everyone and creating inclusive performances that can be accessed by a large community. His choreographic choices reflect the realities of everyday life. His work 2 MEN was the winner of the Festival 10 Sentidos in Valencia, Spain and his performances have been invited to "Prakriti Excellence" in Contemporary Dance Awards.

He has worked with renowned choreographers and theatre directors in India and abroad (Robert Moses, Sudesh Adhana, Deepak Kurki Shivashamy, Anne Tourien, Sonia Rodriguez to name a few). He worked in Dubai Parks and Resort for a year as a performer.

As an educator, he works with both dancers and non-dancers to introduce them to the beauty and simplicity of creative movement. He has been invited to teach in dance/theatre residencies and runs his own dance/movement workshop. He received his diploma in mix media and movement arts from Attakkalari (Center for Movement Arts) in Bangalore.

TWO MEN

This piece is an abstract depiction of two men and their relationship. The individual dilemma comes up even though there is an invisible magical emotional connection between them. They look for something similar and try to get over each other. Somehow, they learn to stay bonded through their differences and conflicts. Through the abstract movements this piece shows their struggle, ups and downs, competitiveness, conflicts of life, togetherness, connection, success, failure, support, control, fight, etc.

SWEET SPOT

This piece is an exploration of the "sweet spot" - a point where one can feel calm amidst the pressures of life. The concept has multiple interpretations, such as a point of transition or inner strength, and could be used as a metaphor for a spiritual journey. The intention is to create a piece that embodies the essence of human struggle and experience in the quest to reach the sweet spot. It aims to connect with the audience members' unique interpretations and experiences, making it relatable to all stages of life. Overall, the piece offers a thought-provoking and multi-layered experience that invites reflection on the complexities of life and the search for inner peace.

Do You See Me or Do I See You?

The movement research project "Do You See Me or Do I See You?" examines the relationship between performer and audience and the desire to remain authentic during performance. The project investigates how a performer's body and mind react during a performance and explores the impact of changing the performer's role to look at the audience during the performance. The project aims to create a deeper emotional connection and experience for both the performer and the audience by transforming the performer-audience relationship. Overall, the project seeks to push the boundaries of traditional performance and create a more impactful and authentic experience for all involved.

In A Muddle

The whole piece is based on the repetitions of the movement and how this repetition engages the whole body.
This art piece is inspired by a real-life situation. It talks about my own experiences.
In the beginning, it shows fear of facing the audience, nervousness, and fighting against it, and how the performer finds a way to move in that nervousness and make it his own abstract movement.
After this part, it shows the human mind, which is like a monkey. It is always jumping around. It is like we are doing something, but the mind is somewhere else, thinking something else.
And this piece shows the progression of the movements and how they start and develop.
