Currently working on:

Currently starting “La sociedad del barro” (Society of Clay), a contemporary circus performance in the research phase.

Drafting “Diaspora Blues”, a contemporary circus performance integrating movement, visual elements, and potentially film. It’s a dialogue between Switzerland and Bolivia, including research trips, collaborations with artists from Tarija (my birthplace), and audiovisual documentation that become part of the performance.

Quick Facts:

Micaela Castrillo Vargas is a Bolivian/Chilean circus and movement artist currently based in Zurich. She was born in Bolivia and moved to Chile at the age of four. Growing up between cultures and as an immigrant shaped both her identity and her artistic perspective.

In 2019, she moved to the Netherlands to study Circus and Performance Art at the Academy of Circus and Performance Art (ACAPA), where she graduated in June 2023, specialising in aerial rope. Her movement research focuses on contrasts between control and chaos, as well as dynamism and poetry.

After graduating, she worked for two years with the Swiss circus company Zirkus Chnopf. Alongside this, she developed her own creation, La Cosecha, with Cia Insurgentes, working mainly in Belgium and the Netherlands. She has also performed her short acts in a variety of settings, including dinner shows and cabarets, across different countries.

Most recently, she was selected for the 10-month mentoring “Peer-to-peer program” by Artlink, where se will develop her artistic projects guided by other professionals.
