Quick Facts:

Lesley-Anne Cao’s (b. 1992, Quezon City) practice explores the interplay of materiality, language, and artmaking. She works with self-produced and found objects, images, and text — often involving collaborators in different fields, alongside mutable materials, machines, and environmental elements — to explore alternative narratives departing from the familiar.

Her recent exhibitions include “Weather-world” at Blindspot Gallery, Hong Kong (2024), “Cast But One Shadow” at the University of the Philippines Vargas Museum, Manila (2021), and “Of sampaguita, ilang-ilang” at c3 Contemporary Art Space, Melbourne (2019). She has been granted artist residencies at Gasworks, London (2023) and HART Haus, Hong Kong (2024), among others.

She completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts in 2014 and received an International Exchange Scholarship to the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France in 2013.

Alongside her artistic practice, she worked as a researcher for Asia Art Archive and has written for publications such as Ctrl+P Journal of Contemporary Art, Manila and West Space Offsite, Melbourne.
