Currently,
Anna is working on a photographic series that explores the relationship between
mountains and the human body. She is also developing an art installation that
reflects on the multifaceted meaning of ancestry, using photographs of her
ancestors and images from the National Archives of Brazil. Regarding future
projects, she intends to continue exploring themes related to identity, memory,
and cultural history, expanding her work to include other forms of art and
collaboration with local and international communities.

Quick Facts:

Anna Menezes is a visual artist, photographer and emerging researcher based in Brasília. She has a in Critical Theory and Art History from the University of Brasilia and develops an artistic practice that investigates the intersections between corporeality, psyche and social relations. Her research unfolds in an experimental approach to the photographic image, in dialogue with three-dimensional structures, where the support - physical and conceptual - acts as an extension and expression of the body.

She has taken part in important exhibitions in Brazil and abroad, such as the Pierre Verger National Photography Award exhibition (Salvador, 2021), the 14th Bunkyo Great Art Exhibition (São Paulo, 2022), the “Women who changed 200 years” group show at Galeria Caixa Cultural, shown simultaneously in seven Brazilian capitals (2023), and the “Abre Alas” exhibition at Galeria A Gentil Carioca (São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, 2023). Internationally, her work was selected for the Royal Photographic Society's “RPS 164” exhibition (London, 2022).

Among other recognitions, she has received the RespirArte award from Funarte (2020), the honorary award from the Salão de Artes Visuais de Vinhedo (2022) and the Garimpo Dasartes Award, granted by the jury of Dasartes magazine (2024).

Bachelor's degree in Critical Theory and Art History at the university of Brasilia, Brazil.
