Supporting young artists with future-oriented approaches

Our new report ‘Creative Communities in Motion’ shows how innovative learning models and international partnerships can sustainably support young artists in rapidly changing work environments.

What skills do young artists need today to build a sustainable career in the cultural sector? Which learning models and partnerships can best support them in an unstable and rapidly changing working environment? And how can educational institutions, cultural organisations and international collaboration work together to create new perspectives?

Over the course of a year, artlink and the Zurich Centre for Creative Economies at ZHdK explored these questions through the Turntables programme, together with artists, universities, civil society organisations and cultural institutions from Switzerland, India, Southeast Asia and Kenya. Across continents, we shared experiences, pooled knowledge and explored new approaches to learning and collaboration. Together with young artists in these regions, we developed participatory training programmes that respond to the realities and challenges of creative work today.

The result is ‘Creative Communities in Motion’, a practical guide to building sustainable livelihoods for young creatives. The report offers reflections as well as practical insights into training and collaboration models, methods and tools at the intersection of art, education and youth work – for everyone committed to sustainably supporting young cultural practitioners.
