Quick Facts:

Elzara Oiseau (b.1989) is a Ukrainian artist of Crimean Tatar origin working across painting, drawing, and site-specific installation. She studied monumental art (2005–2011) in Simferopol, Crimea. In 2014, following the annexation of Crimea, she relocated to Kyiv and later to Irpin. After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Elzara fled alone to Zurich, carrying large rolls of paintings from her studio in Kyiv. These works were presented in a solo exhibition at La Galerie Philosophique in Grandson, Switzerland, in August 2022. Since 2022, she has been living and working in Zurich. She has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions and completed artist residencies in Switzerland, Greece, Denmark, and France.
Her practice explores unstable states of presence, where words, landscapes, memories, and bodies begin to dissolve yet never completely disappear. Through painting, text, and installation, she investigates how language, material, and memory carry traces of what can no longer be fully seen, read, or held. Her works evolve through layering, erasure, repetition, and material transformation. Images emerge, recede, and reappear, while fragments of language drift between legibility and disappearance. Forms remain in flux, allowing meaning to shift without settling.
